On this day in parkrun history....12th February

The 12th February is a rare date that has seen two different parkrundays. To be honest, even with my simple maths, that suggests that there are at least 52 such parkrundays as a minimum, as 2005 and 2011 seem to have shared the same dates for Saturdays.

Back in 2005 there was just a single parkrun event, in Bushy park of course. On 12th February 2005 just 27 parkrunners completed the Bushy park parkrun.

On 12th February 2011, 56 parkrun events took place, with 7,703 parkrunners completing their run that day. I took part that parkrunday, it was my 27th parkrun and I ran a new PB of 17:49. I have only had 2 new PBs since then!

Step forward just two more years to last weekend (9th February 2013), where 199 parkrun events took place with 26,914 finishers.

On this day in parkrun history

On this day in parkrun history, back on the 8th January 2011 (only two years ago), just 54 events were run with 5,738 finishers.

Last weekend, only two years later, 27,783 parkrunners finshed at 191 events.

That's a growth in the number of finishers of 384% in two years.

On this day in parkrun history...20th December

On this day in parkrun history, on Saturday 20th December 2008, just 11 parkrun events took place. 1,091 parkunners completed their parkrun that day.

Just 4 years later and this last weekend saw a new record of 192 parkrun events take place and 18,007 parkrunners take part. Yet more evidence of the impressive growth of parkrun over the last few years.

On this day in parkrun history...7th November 2009

Just 3 years ago today, on Saturday 7th November 2009, parkrun was not quite the size it is today.

That 'parkrunday' (this word will be in the Oxford English Dictionary one day, I assure you) saw just 23 parkrun Events take place with "only" (in today's terms) 3,096 parkrunners (another future real word) taking part.

Just three years on and last weekend saw an incredible 183 parkrun events with 24,303 completed runs.

Impressive growth!
